President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdullah Abdullah are expected to introduce nominees for nine key ministries.
Sources close to President Ghani and CEO Abdullah have confirmed that four of the nominees would be introduced by President Ghani and four others by CEO Abdullah.
According to the sources, Fazal Ahmad Manawi has been named Minister of Interior, Rahmatullah Nabil as NDS chief, Sher Mohammad Karimi as Minister of Defense, Salahuddin Rabbani as foreign Minister, Jilani Popal as Finance Minister, Sadat Naderi as Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled, Sardar Ahmad Naeemi as Minister of Trade and Commere, Faziullah Zaki as Minister of Information and Telecommunication.
The other nominee who has not been named is expected to be introduced as Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development.
The announcement of key ministers comes almost three months after President Ghani took office as the new President of Afghanistan.
President Ghani had pledged to introduce the new cabinet within 45 days after taking office, however the announcement was delayed, causing criticisms and objections, with the Lower House of Parliament – Wolesi Jirga questioning the legitimacy of the National Unity Government for being failed to introduce the new cabinet ministers.
